Five Great Core Exercises

By
Exercising your core muscles is the basis for overall body health and fitness.Your core muscle groups are the rectus abdominus, the internal/external obliques and the transversus abdominus.
The abdominal crunch is a well known exercise for core strength. Lie on your back with your knees bent, then contract your abdominal muscles to raise your shoulders off the ground towards your knees. Hold for two seconds then slowly lower your shoulders back to the start position. Repeat for at least 20 times.
The bridge is another great exercise to work your abdominal musecles. Lie on your back with your knees bent, then raise you hips off the floor until your hips are in a line with your knees and shoulders. Hold this position for three seconds, then lower your hips back to the start position. Repeat this ten times.
Torso rotation is another way to improve core strength. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your hands outstretched resting on the floor. With your shoulders on the floor, rotate your knees slowly to the left as far as they will go comfortably. You should feel the stretch of your muscles, but no pain. Hold this for three seconds and then return your knees to the upright position. Repeat this to the right side, then repeat the cycle of left and right rotations ten times.
Alternate arm/leg raises are a great exercise for the back. Lie on your front with your arms extended in front of you. Lift your left arm from the shoulder, and your right leg from the hip as far as they can go. Hold them in this position for 5 seconds and then lower them to the start position. Repeat this with right arm and left leg. Do this again ten times. An easier way to do this is to just lift your left arm for 5 seconds, then lower it, then move on the right arm, left leg and right leg.
The plank is great for working the transversus abdominus, a muscle that has been much neglected in terms of exercise. Lie on your front and put your elbows on the floor underneath your shoulders. Put your toes on the floor with legs hip width apart and with back straight, lift your body off the floor and pull in your belly upwards towards your spine. Hold this plank position for a count of 30 to 60 seconds.
Relax and put your body back on the floor. This can be repeated 4 or 5 times.
These five exercises will definitely get your core into good shape.

Best Exercises for Bodybuilding

By
Exercise is crucial to any body building regime. We need to feed the mind and the body to ensure optimal success in building muscle. An unhealthy lifestyle, and having processed and high calorie food can result in any number of health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, insomnia, stress-related psychological issues, and cardiovascular problems to name but a few. Exercise not only improves your physical condition, it also keeps you free from stress and tension. Mood swings can be a common thing for overweight people, living on processed foods.

Abs Specific Exercises With Kettlebells

By
I am often asked about Kettlebell Workouts for Abs development and Abs specific exercises which can be performed with the Kettlebell.
The answers are always really simply and yet still appear to shock people. The truth is that the Rocky films and their epic training montages have convinced us all that we have to be able to perform the Dragon flag with insane intensity
and be able to have medicine balls not only dropped onto our Abs but they also have to bounce off them.
Now for the answer... nearly every weight bearing movement involves and will exercise the Abdominal wall!
As we move into the arena of the Kettlebell we can start to look at why Kettlebell exercises may as well be your weapon of choice to sharpen the Abs. The very nature of the Kettlebell forces more stress onto your core muscles than any of its weight lifting cousins such as the Dumbbell or Barbell. This due to the cannon-ball like shape and the position of the handle - basically, the body is always in contact with the weight and the force of the weight meaning that as any exercise you perform moves along it's route of completion one muscle group takes over from another as oppose to a slight 'mid-rep' rest.
Full body Kettlebell movements such as Goblet Squat, Kettlebell Swing and the Kettlebell Clean are not only fantastic mass building exercises but they heavily involve the core muscle groups and will dramatically improve the strength and conditioning of the Abs.
You can of course, perform Abs specific movements such as Kettlebell Crunches, Kettlebell Sit-Ups and Kettlebell Hanging Leg raises but there is very little evidence to suggest this will improve the definition in your Abdominal wall.
The fact remains that as long as your body fat percentage is as low as possible then your Abs will show through. Proof of this can be found in your local swimming, any young boy with low body fat will display the 'six pac abs' physique. This is just a simple case of everyone having the Abdominal wall structure which is normally covered by a layer of Fat tissue but when we have low body fat (as many young Boys do) the Abs show through.
This basically highlights the fact that if we all do cardio and keep the diet clean to keep the body fat low, our Abs will show through with the need for Abs specific exercises.

How Muscle-Building Exercises Can Benefit Your Body

The top way to prevent such unwanted processes is regular workout sessions with the "irons." Why? The truth is, a single pound of muscle burns 50 more calories per day than does a pound of fat.
At first glance, fifty calories does not sound like much. Although, thinking about it, having increased five pounds of

The Best Exercises To Strengthen Your Ab Muscles

By
Before you can really exercise your abdominal muscles, it is very important to understand them and how they work. Did you know that there is more than one muscle group in your abdomen? It's true! Many busy moms aren't too concerned with the mechanics behind something they see in their exercise videos, but believe it or not, knowing what you're up against is one of the keys to winning the battle of the belly bulge!

The most common exercise videos available focus on the major abdominal muscle groups including the rectus abdominus, external and internal obliques, and the transverse abdominus muscles. These groups and bands of muscles are what you will be targeting when engaging in the following core exercises to strengthen your ab muscles:
  • Reverse Crunches - Most busy moms are familiar with traditional crunches and may have been doing them for years with little success. As they became busier and busier they may have abandoned them altogether. The Reverse Crunch is a bit different and begins with lying down on your back and raising your legs off the floor in a bent knee position. Slowly, use the strength of your ab muscles to bring your knees close to your chest so that your butt is lifted slightly off the ground. Slowly release and return back to the starting position, engaging your abs as much as possible.

  • Leg Lifts - Harder than they look, but very much worth the effort, leg lifts are the perfect exercise for a busy mom because they can be done almost anywhere and take a little as five minutes. Start by lying flat on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you and your arms at your sides and your hands palms down. Contract your ab muscles and slightly bend your knees as you raise your legs as far as you can off the floor. Hold this position for as long as you can before slowly lowering your legs back to the ground. Repeat as often as you can, holding the position longer each time. When you are finished, return to your original position and rest for a moment before standing up.

  • Bicycle Crunches - This is an exercise covered in a lot of online exercise videos because it is often easier to do after seeing someone else do it first. Lay flat on the floor and place your hands behind your head for support. Be careful not to pull on your head during the exercise as this will strain your neck muscles. Bend your knees at a 45 degree angle and pull them upward so that they are parallel with the floor. Press the small of your back against the floor and lift your shoulder blades so that they are no longer touching the floor. Straighten one leg and hold it at a 45 degree angle from the floor while keeping your other knee bent - while holding this position twist your upper body so that your opposite elbow touches your opposite knee. Repeat this maneuver with the other knee and elbow, alternating in sets until you are ready to rest. When you are finished slowly lower your head and shoulders to the floor, followed by your legs and rest a moment before standing.
And these are only a few of the exercises that can be found in exercise videos all around the internet. Of course, before you try any new exercise, make sure that you talk to your doctor. Even busy moms know that it's better to be safe than sorry!
