Why Women Should Get Over Their Fear of the Weight Room

By
Walk around a gym and you will see very few women in the weight room. Some may be on the machines, but most will be in the cardio area and almost none will be in the free weight area. Why is that?
For one, there is the idea that women who lift weights are going to become these huge, manly she-beasts. There also is the intimidation factor - many women just aren't comfortable breaking into the men's domain.
The fear of turning into she-beasts is completely unfounded. Women do not have the testosterone levels that men do, making it that much harder to put on muscle. Women who train for competition can tell you just how hard it is - most have been training for years and still haven't put on the mass that they want. There is so much more I could say on this topic, but I won't for now. This is a topic that deserves to stand alone and one I'll tackle at another time.
Being comfortable in the weight room is tougher, and I think that most women who have picked up a free weight has felt this. I'll tackle that after discussing why women need to get over it.
There is nothing wrong with cardio. It has many health benefits and honestly, just seeing someone get up off the couch is great. But if you stick to just cardio, you are missing out on a lot. For the most part, the benefits of weight training are the same for men and women (so men who don't workout should read this, too!). However it seems that women are not as aware of the benefits as their male counterparts.
Muscle helps increase your resting metabolism. Meaning that as your lean muscle mass increases, your body will burn more calories while you are at rest. Some studies have shown that for each pound of lean muscle you add, your body will burn 35 - 50 more calories each day.
Resistance training decreases the risk of osteoporosis. Women who are taking in the required amount of caclium can actually increase the mineral density of their bones.
Weight training reduces your risk of injury, arthritis, and back pain. You not only strengthen your muscles when you lift weights, you also strengthen your connective tissue and give your joints more stability.
Working out also been shown to reduce your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer.
Hitting the weight room will also help fight depression. Women who strength train typically feel more confident, helping keeping them from feeling the blues.
Now that you know all of the benefits, how do you get up the nerve to enter the weight room?
The biggest reason that I hear from women as to why they are nervous about hitting the weights is that they feel self-conscious. That everyone is looking at them and they are embarrassed as they don't feel they know what they are doing.
Women need to remember that they are just feeling self-conscious, as most people do when entering a new situation.
Will people look at you? Yes. But people look at you when you go to the grocery store, the mall, etc. Overall, though, no one is really paying attention to what you are doing. And if they are, there are a million reasons why - they may be impressed that you were brave enough to start lifting weights, they may be curious about what you are doing, they may just like your outfit. As you get more comfortable with what you are doing, you won't even notice anymore.
Women also should remember that no one walked into the weight room for the first time knowing exactly what to do. A good way to prepare yourself is to get online and watch videos of the different exercises you are looking to do. There are tons of them on YouTube. Most gyms also offer a free personal training session for new members where they walk you through and show you how to use everything. If you're not a new member and are moving from the cardio section to the weight section, it would be worthwhile to hire a trainer for one session to do this.

Don't Lose Your Mind - Lose Your Weight

By

Fantastic read! This book by Rujuta Diwakar, sports science and nutrition expert about losing weight without giving up the food you love to eat is worth a read. I have gone through books dealing on this issue by various authors but I simply fell in love with this one.
I would love to share few simple rules to eating right. What we need to change is not the food but our lifestyle. Eat what you want and shed those extra pounds... isn't this cool! diet-quotes
Few things that need to be kept in mind are:
1 Always eat the moment you wake up: never start your day with tea or coffee.
Simple logic behind this is that the blood sugar level goes down when we sleep and if we have a fruit or something equivalent in the morning it helps to elevate the blood sugar levels. After a little gap you can have that cherished cup of coffee.
2 Eat every two to three hours a day.
In order to increase our metabolic rate eating a small portion from our daily diet is going to help tremendously. If the gap between the two meals is more, then it can be a cause of indigestion and acidity. What we need to do is split our large meal into small portions and have it after two hours gap. Not only will we be having all the nutrients but this also helps in burning the fat.
3 Eating should be directly proportionate to your activity levels.
Fair enough! If we are just lazing around or are doing sedentary kind of work, then we can cut down on the heavy meals instead we can have something light but if we are mentally and physically involved in hectic work then the amount of food we have also needs to be in accordance. The golden rule is never let your stomach feel the hunger pang and also do not cross the line and over eat.
4 There should be a minimum gap of two hours between the last meal and bedtime.
Logically we should have our last meal around 7pm. After that our stomach slows down and wants to relax and proper justice is not done to the food we have. But practically if it is not possible then whatever is the last time for the meal, it would be better if we sleep after two hours of having it.
5 Don't follow those fads of extreme diets - they are not sustainable and just don't work.Anything which we cannot follow lifelong is wrong for the body.
6 All kinds of foods are good as long as you are eating the right quantity at the right time. Never go on a diet, what you need to do is modify your life style.
And last but not the least is that exercise is nonnegotiable. Unless you exercise don't expect to see miracles, despite the good eating habits. Yoga, walking, swimming, dancing, aerobics any kind of exercise for two hours thrice a week is must.
7 Try having your meals on a dining table. Enough of it having slouched on a couch in front of television.
I am personally following these tips and have seen change in my body. Let's enjoy our lives to the fullest by inculcating these valuable tips. Cheers!

Why Diets Don't Make You Lose Weight

Have you tried most of the diets out there, and then announce the weight very quickly recovered and eventually weigh more? You are not alone. Statistics say that over 80 percent of people who have lost weight regains all or after two years. Have you ever felt like a failure every time it happened? How does the desire and effort to have a healthy body and look better and in this vicious circle? The answer is very simple: It's not your fault - Diets do not work and actually cause great harm to our body. We simply have to accept the fact that to obtain this coveted body have to stop dieting and change our lifestyle. So before you start a new weight loss plan considers these few factors:

1. We are all genetically predisposed to a certain weight. If your body is solid, heavy construction will be almost impossible for you to become lean and thin as a ballet dancer. I wish the reality was different, but unfortunately, our body will always try to maintain a certain weight and cannot change our body type.

Two. When you start a restrictive diet, your body automatically goes into starvation mode. Just presume that you will not have enough calories soon to survive, you must slow down your metabolism and operate a reduced amount of energy. This is all due to ancient times when our ancestors did not have 24/7 access to food and did not know when his next meal would come.    Whenever food became scarce, their body begins to burn fuel more efficiently to try to survive the famine early. However, this survival mechanism works against us, because all we want is at our disposal all the time. Unfortunately, our bodies do not understand this. When we stop dieting and increase food intake, our bodies are running on a slower metabolism mode with energy more efficiently. The more you diet, the more efficient your body becomes operational in less calories and it is harder to loose weight.

Three. When you are on a diet, it is easy to get excited at first, especially with the rapid loss of initial weight. But after a while you start feeling deprived and unsatisfied. This leads to an obsession with food. If your mind is constantly focused on what can and what cannot eat, there is no way you will be able to support a strict diet. That is why, after a few weeks of religion following your meal plan, it falls back and crave and eat more than before. Moreover, most diets do not provide tasty meals taste think fat, no sugar ... After submitting this, it is natural that you are prone to binge after a while.

April. Often restrictive diets only allow a narrow range of food, which leads to nutrient deficiencies. The poorest in nutrients that are needed the most experienced cravings. This is not very helpful when it comes to loosing weight.

May Besides slowing metabolism and nutritional deficiencies that your body is under a lot of stress and after a while the chemical changes in the body and therefore the secretion and the level of hormones responsible for hunger and satiety. If these hormones are not working properly your body is not able to show when it is full or hungry. That is why, when you have finished your diet, you tend to overeat.

So I suggest you consider all these things before you plan to start a new diet and approach the issue in a different way. Try changing your relationship with food and make small changes that are sustainable for life and will help you maintain your ideal weight for the long term.

Using Protein Supplements to Lose Weight

Face it, dieting is hard. If it were easy, there would only be one plan, it would work and no one would be overweight ever again. We eat to be healthy and to have energy. We eat because our body is convinced it is hungry. We eat because we see others eating and want to be social. We eat because we are happy, sad, mad, glad or indifferent. We eat because it is dinner time. We eat because it is Tuesday afternoon. Dieting does not address the whole picture, nor does it address the mechanics of the body. Dieting, especially the extreme, hardcore, fad diet, is going to start off strong and then fade
